Oh the baby shower! :) Teddy and I arrived early Sunday morning to help my family with decorations. My little sister Tiffany, went about setting up each decoration and it all tied in so beautifully. I had collected all of my Winnie the Pooh items and had given them to her to use for the Winnie the Pooh theme. It was perfect. The cake was an adorable bee hive complete with cutesy little bees. I was in charge of the punch... I tried something new I'd found online. It was cranberry - raspberry juice with ginger ale, vanilla ice cream and I added floating strawberries. It actually tasted pretty good and I was surprised.
Then the guests arrived one by one... Teddy's Mamaw first. She also enjoyed the punch and I was super glad. :) Next our family friend Becky, who usually is accompanied by her funny and tall husband Neal, who grew up in the same place my father did. But he was absent this time, since this was a baby shower mostly for women. Becky asked to feel my baby bump and got very excited about how big I was. I hadn't seen Becky in awhile, so I know she had not seen my baby bump before. Soon everyone that could make it had arrived and Tiffany began her party. She had plenty of games and activities picked out for us.
We all started on the cake first. It was so cute, but the sugary sweetness was singing an enticing song that I for one could not resist. So I grabbed a big knife and started into the fabulous creation. Then halfway through, the knife stopped. I pushed harder on it and the bottom half of the cake sagged with my pressure. What the heck? I tried to cut through again, but the knife caught in the same place. After studying the dissected remains of the cake, we found a cardboard circle had been placed between two different flavors. To little too late... The bottom half of the cake had been crushed by our efforts to slice it and it now resembled the mixed up innards of a birthday cake for an excited one year old. But it was still cake and it still sang of sugary sweetness. So we cut chunks for everyone and covered them with bits of frosting that had fallen. Good as new! :) The cake tasted just fine.
All of the guests gathered in the living-room. It was game time. The first game Tiffy started us out with was "Guess this baby food..." Each of us passed the jars around trying to examine the contents for clues. Teddy was the only guy at the party. My Dad snuck away before everyone arrived to take a nap. Teddy was completely fine being the only guy. I thought he might have gotten a little too competitive during the games and this was quite entertaining for everyone else. He had his Mamaw help him with the baby food game. When the answers were found to be wrong, he jokingly blamed her for the mistakes only to get that "Now you're in trouble" look from her in return... I just laughed (because I got them all right;)) Katelyn, one of my best friends and wonderful college roommate, said that I had acquired a "Mommy-Sense." That was funny, because I totally guessed.
Finally, it was time to open the gifts. I am usually quite nervous about gift opening. I am supposed to be extroverted... but I have found that I get very nervous and shy about parties, celebrations, or events that are centered around myself. This is not very extroverted at all. In fact, for my own high school senior open house I hid the majority of the time. Sometimes these things make me feel uncomfortable. So I began to nervously open the pretty gift bags that had been placed in front of me. After one or so had been opened, looked across the living room at Teddy and quickly asked him to join me. I was very thankful for Teddy at that moment. He joked and laughed and opened the gifts with ease. I did not have to feel nervous, because it was not merely centered around me... It takes two. Teddy and I are a team in this crazy adventure and that made all the difference. I couldn't forget that. Because as important it is for my baby to have a mother, it is just as important for her to have a daddy that loves her. And boy Teddy sure does love his little Elsa already. He hasn't gotten to hold her yet, but he knows he loves this little gal. I am so thankful for him every day.
Well anywho, the baby shower was a success! :) Sara, a long time best friend of mine (since 3rd grade!!), was a big fan of my new punch... so that was really awesome :) We all had fun playing the games and eating our smashed up cake. At the end, we all had even more fun catching up and just talking. I never understand how time can pass so quickly... But it did and the shower slowly ended as each guest left.
I was truly thankful for the time I had with those wonderful ladies! I was also very impressed and thankful for my little sister Tiffy and my mother for planning and hosting. And to top it all off, I am so very thankful for all the gifts that were given to us to help us get ready for Elsa's arrival. Teddy and I really appreciated everything!!
P.S. You are all still getting Thank you cards... so expect to see them in your mailbox soon! ;)
