I already knew we were going to have a good first Christmas, because for the past month or two I had been excitedly collecting Christmas presents for everyone on my list. I had great gifts pick out and I'm pretty sure I was more excited about them than the people receiving them would be. My new husband,Teddy, and I had just gotten married in November. He was my most difficult person to buy presents for. Not because I didn't know what he wanted, but because he had an uncanny knowledge about anything and everything that I had decided to get him. I know he had somehow peeked or found a list I had written. But Christmas for him would not be surprising at the least. Don't get me wrong, he was already excited about what he was getting, but I enjoy having the element of surprise.
Christmas was quickly coming and I was running out of ideas and surprises to try. I remember the day very well, because I was feeling a little odd. I figured the feeling was the oncoming assault I was about to go through the coming week. But it was different this time. I was not feeling myself and the cramps were coming early. My head hurt a little, so I worried I might be getting sick on Christmas. While I was at the store I ran through the medicine. I thought I could pick something up that could save me from an awful sickness during my fun Christmas festivities. As I was walking through, something caught my eye. Could it be? I decided I might as well check, just in case.
When I got home, I took out my test and went to the bathroom. I was merely curious, I had no idea that it would be positive.
I saw the two lines as clear as day. There was absolutely no doubt. I was pregnant.
I walked out quietly and found Teddy sitting at his computer. "Teddy...." He turned around and looked at me. "I think you might want to see this." He looked confused, but followed me to the bathroom where I had left the test.
"I was just curious..." I said nervously, "but it looks like you are going to be a Daddy." I smiled as I held up the pee test for him to see.
"Oh my gosh! Is it really positive?" he studied the test for a minute. Then he looked up and smiled. "We're going to have a baby!"
Long story short, I did end up surprising Teddy with the best Christmas present I could have ever not thought of... :)
