After waiting and waiting, we were at the doctor's office again for our 2nd gender reveal ultrasound... We were excited, but just in case I tried to calm my excitement in fear that the conditions would not be "just right," and we would have to wait longer. They called us back and almost forgot that we were getting an ultrasound. We quickly reminded them and our excitement grew as the ultrasound was hooked up and turned on. I looked at the screen anxiously hoping to see that our little baby turned the right way and was sitting perfectly for the doctor. I saw my beautiful little baby... still flipped the wrong way. :( I was filled with dismay. All the things I read about breeched babies did not hold good news... and the position of my baby made me quite nervous. The doctor didn't seem phased. He took his measurements and we waited rather impatiently. What was the baby going to be? I had no clue...
Then the doctor started to shift the ultrasound thing around trying to get a better view. He grew frustrated. I started freaking out inside. We were not going to find out agian.... I just knew it. I looked at Teddy worriedly and he looked anxious. The doctor asked me to roll onto my side to get a better position. I did, but no dice. I moved back and he started to look again. After what seemed like forever our baby started kicking and moving. Then suddenly the baby moved to the perfect position and we had a complete view.
First thought - it's a boy!
Second thought- What is wrong with him!? Why is it so swelled!?
Third thought- ohmygosh.... that's the umbilical cord.
(All of this happened in a matter of 5 seconds right as the doctor said:)
"There's the umbilical cord." as he pointed at what I had first seen...
"And there is nothing else back here...." He turned and smiled at us.
"Looks like you're going to have a little girl! Congratulations! "
I was in shock almost. It felt like everyone had been telling me the signs pointed to a boy... but we were having a little girl! I called my family and told them the news. "Tell Dad I'm sorry he couldn't even catch a break with his first grandchild... Cause there's going to be ANOTHER girl in the family!"
Everyone was excited and happy... Teddy and I were simply grateful to see our baby continue to grow safe and healthy. And we will soon be welcoming our sweet Elsa Mae Burchett in a couple months!!
